Four easy ways to prepare for a road trip

Road Trip

I’ve said it before but it bears repeating—it is not difficult to make sure your family is as safe as possible before you take off for your summer vacation. Ideally, we want you to schedule an appointment well in advance with our super auto repair mechanics here in Overland Park. But even if you don’t think anything needs to be inspected, the Car Care Council has some great tips for a 10-minute driveway look-see you can perform yourself.

Check all fluids, including engine oil, antifreeze/coolant, windshield washer solvent, and power steering, brake and transmission fluids. (Your owner’s guide will tell where each of these reservoirs is located.)

Check the hoses and belts that can become cracked, brittle, frayed, loose, or show signs of excessive wear. These are critical to the proper functioning of the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering and the cooling system.

Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots.

Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and inspect and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving during precipitation.

If your inspection turns up any questionable areas, call us to schedule an appointment and we’ll ensure you get to your destination safely!
